The proof of research and teaching

Scientific proof of DEMKOR experiences

McGill University in Montréal, Canada, has conducted a study on the stratification and effectiveness of tannin-based boiler water treatment chemicals. Thanks to DEMKOR, the reliable heat supply for households and hotels is now sustainable.

For the first time, decades of positive practical experience with DEMKOR have been scientifically proven.

The two researchers, Dr. Roger Gaudreault and Dr. Mahdi Dargahi, used precise QCM-D (Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation monitoring) measurement technology, which is even able to determine mass changes with a sensitivity in the nanogram range. The laboratory results demonstrate that DEMKOR forms a layer quickly, within just 10 minutes.

They also used electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to conduct extensive efficiency measurements with regard to corrosion protection and developed a calculation formula. The two scientists were able to scientifically prove the correlation between a higher DEMKOR concentration and greater corrosion resistance.

Adsorption kinetics of DEMKOR

Kinetic measurements show that the DEMKOR protective layer forms quickly.

Kinetic measurements show that the DEMKOR protective layer forms quickly. There appears to be a maximum layer thickness that does not exceed a maximum value even when the dosage is above the optimal application concentration. The layer formation is reversible and dynamic, and the mechanism has been thoroughly investigated and understood.

Efficient corrosion protection

Proof with EIS measurements

EIS measurements show that the DEMKOR protective layer is responsible for a strong corrosion protection due to oxygen binding of the tannins in addition to the corrosion protection. Calculations based on the EIS measurement data show that the efficiency of this additional corrosion protection is over 80%.
