Environmentally friendly composition

The basis of all Demkor products is an environmentally friendly tannin-lignosulphonate compound. This compound is neither steam-volatile nor salt-accumulating and is thus physiologically and toxicologically harmless. An iron-tannate film forms in the parts of the system that come into contact with water, providing effective corrosion protection without impairing heat transfer. In addition, Demkor stabilises the residual hardness of the water and thus prevents the dreaded formation of limescale.

Simple analysis

Thanks to the use of only one active ingredient for all protective functions, the analysis of Demkor products is significantly simplified compared to conventional additives. We offer a straightforward analysis for on-site use, and various photometric methods are available for laboratory diagnostics.

Effective oxygen binding properties

Demkor products absorb the residual oxygen in steam boilers and hot water systems quickly and effectively. In contrast to sulfite-based oxygen scavengers, the Demkor concept works even at low temperatures, so that even temporarily operated and wet-preserved systems are adequately protected. At higher temperatures, the absorption rate increases sharply, so that hardly any oxygen remains within a few minutes after dosing.

Formation of the protective layer with DEMKOR

Corrosion protection through the iron-tannate layer

Demkor uses tannin to form a protective layer that inhibits corrosion. This layer, known as the iron-tannate layer, is dynamic and does not impair heat transfer. Unlike conventional deoxidisers such as sulfite, erythorbate or hydrazine, this layer provides additional protection against corrosion.

Dynamic layer formation

The layer formation by Demkor is reversible and dynamic, but reaches a maximum thickness, even at higher dosages. This guarantees an optimal protective layer without negative effects.

Scientifically confirmed

A study by the renowned McGill University in Montréal, Canada, proves the effectiveness of tannin-based boiler water treatment chemicals. Dr Roger Gaudreault and Dr Mahdi Dargahi used QCM-D (Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation monitoring) technology to demonstrate the rapid layer formation of Demkor in just 10 minutes. This technique makes it possible to measure mass changes in the nanogram range.

Effective corrosion protection

EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) measurements show that the Demkor protective layer provides over 80% efficiency in corrosion protection, in addition to the oxygen binding capacity of the tannins. This high efficiency results from the increased electrical resistance that the protective layer generates.

The classic Demkor formulation allows operation with soft water and prevents residual hardness deposits by means of the threshold effect of the tannin-lignosulphonate compound. This disperses the hardness, enabling it to be removed by desalination during operation.

Adaptation to contaminated systems

For heavily loaded systems, there are special Demkor types with additives that compensate for system-related hardness deposits and even contribute to commissioning cleaning of already calcified systems. Here, too, the dissolved hardness is removed by desalination.
